ASHBURTON.

A meeting of the Board was held at the office on the 7th instant. Members present —Messrs Williameoß, Bollock, and Hunt; and in the absence of Sir Grigg Mr Williameon was voted to the chair. The overseer reported that it was necessary that the whole of Clark's road ehonld be made, and it was resolved that tenders be, at once I invited for the work; It was decided that iin future all bridges should be built by tender. Mr A. Pearson waited, on the Board, and presented a petition urging, on the Board the x necessity of putting in repair th« road off Longbeach road from Soath Ashbarton School to rural /section 16684. Resolved, that the overseer examine the road, and report at next meeting of the Board. Mr Frampton's letter, asking for a bridge or cnlyert over the creek near bis property, was also referred to the overseer for his report In reply to an application from Mr J. B. Steele, asking for timber for an approach from Burnett to his premises, the secretary was instructed to reply that the Board would make the approach in accordance with the general custom, provided Mr ; Steele pay' lone-half; the cost. A letter was received from the Bey W. B. Paige, calling attention to a large hole near the parsonage, still not filled up. The Board decided to inspect the nuisance complained of personally. The secretary was instructed to write to the secretary of the fire brigade, and the owner of the section adjoining the engine shed, to remove the gone growing thereon. It. was decided to communicate with tbe Government, asking them to remove the gorse on the railway reserve. The overseer reported that be had at present no further use for day. laborers, and had discharged them. The Board decided; that one man should be employed to clear the side channels of the road extending from the post officer to the river. The pfcy sheet amounting to £741 18a was pursed for payment, and the Board then adjourned. , ■;..•;.
