CALEDONIAN SPORTS.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sib, —Being a stranger here, I put tbe question to you—Are there no Scotchmen in Christchurch ? If there are none lam satisfied. If there are, I ask yon another question—ln the name of everything sacred, what sort of Scotchmen are they ? My reasons for being so pertinent in asking such questions are, if there are Scotchmen in Christchurch, why have they not, as in other towns in New Zealand, the sports and games of their Fatherland, termed Caledonian games, specially suitable on the first day of a new year. I ask again, if there are Scotchmen in Christchurch 7 I say unto them —Shame on yon, you deserve not the name ! or else, if yon were leal-hearted, true men, you would have your society. Brothers banded together for the sake of the old land ; and on New Tear's Day—a day always looked forward to by old and young in that dear old home, but more specially here ought it to be in this the land of our adoption—to have those games.

I mnat say I was mere than astonished when I was told there was no such society here as the Caledonian Society, and as a matter of coarse, no ench games. Dnnedin,. Wellington, and Auckland have them. They are looked forward to in those towns both by old and young, and not only by Bcotca« man but by every nationality. All feel they have an interest in them, and they show, by their presence there that they claim an interest in them, for it ie not in hundreds they come, bat in tens of thousands.

Trusting thai before next New Tear's Day comes round, Scotchmen in Chratchareb will wake up and do their duty, form them* selves into a society, and show to their Southern brethren here what Scotchmen oan do in the good old games of their native land. Yours, &C, FCOTIA.
