OBSTRUCTING PUBLIC ROADS.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir, —In the police reports we occasionally read of private persons being fined for the above offence, in some cases for only a few extra minutes. Can any of your readers explain how it is the City Council has rot been summoned for obstructing the com munication between Colombo street and the Caledonian road for the past foar or five years, through placing a dangerous post and wire fence in the way, with no light, these dark winter nights, to prevent the frequent collisions which happen ha turning the sharp square corners, particularly at the North corner post, which bears enough marks of the many obstinate encounters it has had with various wheels to make it worthy of a place in our Museum, to serve as a lasting memo, to future generations of how the Christchurch City Councillors of old used to obstruct and annoy peaceable citizens. Numerous other cases could be sited to show
ow the City Council rides rough shod over aw and right, but it would take too'much of your valuable space, I will therefore confine my remarks at to the above obstruction, and trust fb<> Conncil will remove it before some very serious accident happens. This part of tho belt requires to be kept open to at least half a chain we>t of the Caledonian road; and for the future let the ends of plantations near public roads be round instead of square. The best way to dispose of the trees would be to offer them to residents in the neighborhood, on condition that they improve the look of their road-side sections with them. Yours, &c, A Born Counsellor.
