The borough school committee held an ad* journed meeting on Friday evening last, Present—all the members, Dr Dudley (chair, man) presiding. ( , j:[ The report of tbe sub-committea appointed to average the salaries of the teaching stiff was brought up. It stated that the staff pro. posed waa to manage a school of 400—vis. boys, 200 j girls, 120; mixed, 80. • For the boys' school— Head master's salary, £300; house- £ rent, £50 ~..: , ~ BCO Second master's salary, £200; houserent, £20 , ~„, 2<jo Assistant ma5ter........... ...,,..','.". 120 Two pnpil-teachera at £25 and '£20:'.!' 45

*?oo The total amount per annum for salaries would thus be £1030. The mixed department, they suggested, should be placed under the supervision of the head foistrras, th« head master to have charge of the buildings and premises.
The report was adopted, and referred to the Board of Education for its approval, The letter from Messrs Prudhoe and Cooper, contractors for the new school, asking for an extension of time within which to complete their contract, of ten weeks) wsJ considered and acceded to, .no penalty'to be enforced for the delay which had taken place. ; !7-.j
It was resolved that the Board of Educa* tion be requested to appoint J. Veyseyftß. Wake, and Elizabeth Monk as pupil teachers. ■ f *
The applications for head master were in* spected, and it was unanimously resolved to appoint Mr Rayner, at present in charge of the Temuka school, subject to the apptoral of the Board of Education.
