Mails close at Chief Post Office for the following places, as under, subject to necessary alterations :— For Timaru and Port Chalmers, per s.s. Maori, on Friday, January 9th, at 11.45 p.m. For Dunedin, per s.s. Lady Bird, on Friday, 9th instant, at 11.45 a.m. For the Austialian colonies and the Southern Provinces of New Zealand, per s.s. Gothenburg, on Friday, 9th instant, at 2 p.m. For the United Kingdom, Continent of Europe, Asia, Africa, America, the West Indies (via San Francisco) ; also the Sandwich Islands, and Northern Provinces of New Zealand, per s.s. Taranaki, on Friday, 9th instant, at 2 p.m. Newspapers at 12 noon. Money orders and registered letters on Thursday, Bth instant, at 5 p.m.
Telegrams for Australia may be forwarded from the Teleerraph Office to Hokitika, till 11 a.m. on Friday, 9th instant, to catch mails closing there at 1 p.m. J. J. FitzGibbon, Chief Postmaster.
