SCHOOL EXAMINATIONS.

NORTH KOWAI.

An inspection of the North Kowai school was held on Wednesday, 9th inst, by Mr Restall, the examiner appointed by the Board of Education. Owing to some misunderstanding, the committee were not present, as was intended, to distribute the prizes, but the Inspector having left a list of those most proficient in their lessons, on the following day Mr Joseph Ward, chairman of the committee, attended and distributed the awards as follows :— Class I.—Head scholar, Annie Stanton, 98 markß, first prize. Class ll.—Catharine Ward, 84 marks, first prize ; Jessie Cooper, 81 marks, second prize. Class lll.—Sarah Stanton, 92 marks, first prize ; Isabella Zurich, 84 markß, second prize. Class TV.—James Cooper, 56 marks, first prize ; B. Coleman, 50 marks, second prize. Class V.—Agnes Dalziel, 46 marks, first prize. Clas3 Vl.—Hilda Lawcock, 40 marks, first prize. The prizes were well-bound books, and extra prizes were given by the committee to Eliza Jane Moffatt, for greatest progress in learning, Mary Ann Milner, for good writing, and Annie Stanton, Mary J. Milner, am! Catharine Ward, for spelling. Several lesser prizes were given to encourage the little ones iv their duties. Mr J. T.
