CORRESPONDENCE.
A HINT TO ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETIES. TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir, —With your permission, I wish to draw the attention of the above societies to a source of income which I thiuk is within their reach, if set about in a proper way—l mean the license fees of Is each paid by sportsmen and others when purchasing ammunition. The amount yearly would materially augment the funds of such societies in their respective provinces ; and it would further have the effect of making every man who shoots a bird, in some measure, pay for the acclimatising of another. Only a slight alteration ki the Arms Act would be required to enable the collector of Customs to pay over the amount at appointed times to the chairman or curator of the society. The shilling tax seems a small one; but lean assure yod, sir, that it is a bugbear in the eves of every man who is a purchaser of ammunition \inder the existing law. WheTeas if the law-was altered, I am sure- no sportsman would grude paying their shilling willingly. I hope some of our M.H.R's will have the matter brought up in the House. Yours, Sec, Fowleb.
