THEATRE ROYAL.
" She Stoops to Conqubb." Miss Colville's benefit at this place of entertainment took place last evening, when Goldsmith's elegant comedy of "Shestoops to Conquer" was presented to one of the most fashionable audiences we have seen for a long time in our theatre. The principal characters, Miss Hardeastle and Young Marlow, were represented by Miss Colvilla and Mr Hoskins respectively, and considering that there was in the piece but little scope for the display of their peculiar excellencies, the representation was tolerably successful. We noticed several anachronisms in the make up and dresses of several of we characters; for instance, the modern chimney pot hat, the Hessian, boots, and Newmarket coat of the Regency period, at the time tae comedy first appeared in 1772, just one nun« dred years ago. , The minor parts were feebly repreaentea, and at times verged too closely on Wβ farcical. Tony Bumpkin notably, and Mrs Hardeastle, were perfect exaggerations, ana poor " Goldy's " hair would have stood on end to have seen such a mieconWP/ tiou of the creations of his genius. **° believe the same piece will be presented » v evening.
