CORRESPONDENCE.

I LEESTON MEETING. TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. j SIR, —I shall feel obliged if you will allow :me space to correct a series of errors which occur in your report of the speech I delivered at Leestou, on Thursday evening last. The mistakes beiug coufined to the figures are likely to mislead, and in some cases possibly alarm the public. I am made to say that Colonel Fielding has purchased ten thousand acres of land from the Government, whereas I said one hundred thousand acres. I am made to say that the arrangements made by Government to encourage immigration, will probably result in an increase of population to the extent of four hundred thousand people during next year, whereas I said ten thousand. I am made to say that the lightest class of railway requires one thousand tons of freight to carry the rails, &c, for one mile, whereas I said one hundred tons. I am made to say that large ships do not care to carry more than fifty tons of rails as cargo, whereas I said one hundred and fifty tons. I am made to say that the line from Addington to Rangiora required twenty-five thousand tons of dead weight, whereas I said two thousand nine hundred tons. I am made to say that the province would probably subscribe forty-four thousand pounds towards the branch railways, whereas I said forty-two thousand. I am, Sir, Your obedient servant, Christchurch, Dec. 30, 1871. W. Reeves.
