WOOLSTON v. PRESS.
This match was played on Saturday last on the Woolston ground. The 'Press club has only recently been established, this being the maiden match, and considering the strength of the team against which they had to contend, their defeat was not to be wondered at. The literary team won the toss and sent their opponents to the wickets. In the first innings the bowling of both J. Nation and Frith was very good, the former taking three wickets in one over, and the Woolstonites were disposed of for 46 all told. The long-stopping of Dunn for the Press deserves mention, only two byes being run in the innings. The Tress then went to the wickets, but tbe bowling of Whitby was too much for them, and they were disposed of for 27. In the second innings the Press suffered through having ho change of bowlers, and Parry and Pavitt completely got hold of the bowling, running the score up to 103 in the second innings; the fielding of the Woolston Club, coupled with Whitby's slows was too much for the ~Pres» Eleven, who retired for 25.
