It is a general belief that the schooner Eose of Eden, Captain Stevenson, is lost, not having been heard of since leaving Picton for Wanganui, daring which trip she mast have encountered the gale in which the topsail schooner Rifleman is supposed to have been: caught in. : Ten days had elapsed from the time of the Rose of Eden leaving up to thfe time ;at which the letter had been written which brings the news that she had been missing to this port (Kaiapoi).
