KAIAPOI POPULAR ENTERTAINMENT.

The first meeting of the committee to carry out the current series of popular entertainments at Kaiapoi took place at the Institute on Monday evening last, there being present —Messrs Hewlings, Ellis, Bean, CJ S. Bell, A. C. Bell, E. Price, Feldwick, Powell, Hassall, A. T. Clark, and Dr. Dudley, who was voted to the chair. Tbe names of Messrs G. Price, Craig, M'Nicol, and J. Lowthian Wilson were added to the committee. The Chairman explained the object of the meeting was to cany out a similar series of entertainments as last year, which were so successful, the funds accruing from which, in tbe first instance, he advised being handed to tbe Institute Committee for the books expected from England. Resolved —" That the entertainments take place at the Institute fortnightly, on Monday evenings, the first to be on May 8 ; dobrs to open at 7.30, the entertainment to begin at eight o'clock." It was unanimously resolved—" That Dr. Dudley be again elected president of the committee." Dr. Dudley thanked the committee, and promised them he would do all in his power to render whatever assistance he could. Mr Wilson proposed and Mr C. Bell seconded—" That Mr G. F. Hewlings be elected hon. secretary," which was carried unanimously. It was moved —"That Mr J. Craig be asked to become hon. treasurer," and carried nem con.
