An inquest was held this morning on the fire at Major Green's, and a verdict returned that it originated from sparks from an adjoining chimney; An inquest was held this afternoon on the body of Peter Mordon, who was drowned whilst in delirium tremens on Sunday. The police had the body brought forty miles through a rough country to town for the inquest. The Council has elected Mr Colenso as Speaker, and Mr Ormond as Superintendent. Yesterday morning Trooper Kennedy in searching for the remains of the men supposed to have fallen overboard, when quarrelling and fighting, from the Ottawa's boat, off Timaru, on the 14th instant, picked up a part of a back-bone, thigh and leg-bone, with foot, with boot attached, two miles north of Timaru.
