PUBLIC MORALITY.

TO THE EOITOB OP THE PRESS. Sir,—That a bond fide fight, with all its gory, brutal, and bloodthirsty accessories, should have taken place this afternoon in the very heart of the town in a leading thoroughfare, with a crowd of admiring spectators, commencing at twenty minutes to three, and terminating about ten minutes past, during which time the " claret" was flowing freely, and at last one of the combatants was knocked speechless: that this was allowed to proceed for such a length of time with no effort to sepai'ate the combatants, speaks volumes for the high condition of our public moral culture.

Yours. &c, A Citizen Who Was Not Present,
