Tima.hu, April 28, 5 56 p m. Mr Rolleston addressed a crowded meeting at Timaru last night. He was loudly cheered throughout a long speech. He answered a number of questions satisfactorily. At the conclusion the following motion was passed unanimously, not a single hand being held up against it—" This meeting begs to thank Mr Eolleston for his address, and pledges itself to support him at the coming contest for the Superintendency ; but at the same time it desires to record it protest against the existing provincial system, it being subversive to the general welfare of the colony, and especially prejudicial to outlying districts." Mr Moorhouse speaks to-night; a stormy meeting is anticipated. Dunedin, April 28, 6.14 p.m. The only match fired to-day was the second set at 400, 500, 600 yards. Tresseder (Dunedin), No. 1, first, 62 points; Gully (Nelson), second, 61 points; Batham (Wellington), third, 61 points. None of the Cadets made 13 points, the number required to entitle them to a prize.

At a meeting oi' tho subscribers to the proposed new Steam Company today, the provisional directors stated tha. they had beeu unable to get the capital required, and asked leave to retire. After passing a vote of thanks for the directors' services, the meeting separated, being unable to form a com puny. Commodore Lambert's successor is Commodore Stirling, who will arrive in the Clio about August. The Challenger leaves for Australia next. week. The Taranaki made a most satisfactory trial trip to-day ; she leaves for the south in a few days.
