THIS Company is formed for working ten acres of land on Kelly's Ridge, Taiapo, Westland, originally taken up by Jenkins and party. The special advantage offered to the public are of a positive oharacter, viz :—Half a ton of quartz taken ten feet from the surface I of the reef has been brought to Christohurch and crushed at the battery in the Foundry yard of John Anderson, Esq., under many disadvantages (as vide report below), with the result of 1 oz 5 dwts 20 grains to the ton; and also a site, with ample water power to work twenty head of stampers, has been i seonred, the whole being situated within two miles of the Christchurch road. It is proposed that the capital of the Company be £4000. 236 paid-up shares have been allotted to the original promoters ; the balance—so 4 shares of £5 each—are hereby offered to the publio as follows : — Applications for Bhares to be accompanied by a deposit of 5s per share ; a further sum of 5s per share to be paid on allotment; and 10s per share per month will be called up for six months, by whioh time it is confidently hoped all calls will oease. Applications for shares to be made to any of the Directors. EEPOET OF CRUSHING. To Mjssbs Waltxb Jenkins and Co. Gentlemen, —For your satisfaction I tender you this short report:— The difficulties under which your half-ton of quartz has been crashed is such as cannot be satisfactory to anyone, especially unsatisfactory to those who witnessed, and those who undertook the crushing. The reasons are apparently many, but until the one great cause of dissatisfaction and alarm is remedied, it would be too speculative to attribute any loss to other causes than the springy nature of the ground upon which the foundation of the Battery rests. The great waste of quicksilver was apparent from the first to Mr Jenkins and myself, who tried every means in our power at command to prevent its escape, but all to no purpose ; the loss from the Berdan I attribute to the wrong speed-pullies being used, that is, an increased speed fixed to it instead of a decreased one. The make of the ripples and receivers are not to my liking, but I don't attribute the loss to these. The engine worked exceedingly steady and well, in every way capable for the work at reduced speed. The only hindrance was caused by the loosening of the stamp-head, which delayed us several times before it could be finally fixed. The result is 12 dwts. 22 grains, which will be a matter for yon to consider, but I think it highly satisfactory. The gold has not been assayed, and I am not able to give an opinion as to its value. I remain, gentlemen, Yours respectfully, 4-33 (Signed) SAMIu P. ANDEEWS,
