CANTERBURY AUXILIARY BIBLE SOCIETY.

The annual meeting of the above Auxiliary took place last evening at the Town Hall, W. B. yir&y, Esq, occupying the chair. The meeting, which was fairly attended, having be 'sn opened with prayer by tbe Rev. VF. J. Habens, the chairman called upon the secretary, the Rev J. Aldred, to read the annual report, but which, owing to its length, we are compelled to hold over. The financial report was then read by the Rev. T. R. Fisher, from which we gather that there is a balance to the credit of the Auxiliary of £241 lis sd, a highly satisfactory state of things. The Rev F. Knowles moved the first resolution, which was as follows: —"That the report now read be adopted, and printed under the direction of the committee." Mr F. J. Gaerick, in seconding the resolution, congratulated the meeting on the fact that the Scriptures had at last been ■ printed in the Maori tODgue, and alluded to

the fact that tho Pope in his syllabus to the (Ecumenical Council denounced the propagation of the Scriptures, concluding an able address by seconding tho resolution. The motion, on bung puf, was carried unanimously. Committee r — Messrs Fletcher, lnglis, .Tamcson, Geo Booth, C R Blakiston, R black, W Gavin, J Grigg. j Garrick, D Craig, Hawkes, J Anderson, aud Bray, with ministers of all denominations who are subscribers to the funds of the society. !

The resolution, on being seconded by Mr David Craig, was put to tho meeting aud carried, and a vote of thanks to tho chairman concluded the meeting.
