Cheisxchuech—March 26. [Before R. J. S. Harman, C. R. Blakiston, and A. Back, Esqs., J.Fs.] Assault—James Joyce, for obstructing itatioD master and assaulting and resisting the police, was fined 40s, and ordered to pay Is 6d for cab hire; in default, to be imprisoned for ninety-six hours. DbW2 i AND DISOBDEBLY AND USING ObICMtB Language—Mary Holmes was sentenced under the Vagrant Act to three months impriionment with hard labor. Uossss Tbanbfebbjsd—The license for tbe Borough Hotel was transferred from Harriet Hart to William Preston. Chbistchttbch —March 25. [Before 1. W. Maude, J. T. Brown, and A. Back, Esqs., J.Fs.] Dbunk and Incapable—William Frideauz was dismissed with a caution. Lunacy—John Dutton was committed to the Lunatic Asylum on the evidence of Drs. lurnbull and Patrick. Civil Case—Hobbs and Goodwin v Shertfh, claim for posting and delivering bills— 17b 6d tendered; judgment for £1, and costs 9s. Lyttelton—March 28. [Before W Donald, Esq, R M.] Dbtok and Disobdebly—Martin Wallace *»s charged with the above offence, and also with stealing from the person certain moneys, the property of C Moreland. Sergeant O'Connor deposed that he charged the prisoner on Monday morning with stealing from the person. He was then residing at the Oddfellows Hotel, and he ascertained that the prisoner gare to the proprietor four £1 notes, which the proprietor (Mr Pearson) now refeed to give up. Prisoner stated that he gate that amount to Mr Pearson. When the prisoner was discharged from gaol on Saturday, he had only 5s in his possession. Chas Moreland deposed that he came from Christchurch by the 5 p m train on Saturday, and had come money with him, also a cheque for £7 7a which he got changed at Carl's, also Mother cheque for £1, which he also cashed. So bought nothing; and was rather the worse jw drink when he came to Lyttelton. He «rt the money out of bis pocket on Saturday sight. By the Bench—He had never seen prisoner before. He recollected a quarrel and ■ *u«le, and feeling some one put his hand j* Mi pocket. He eiclaimed he was robbed. *he money was in his left hand pooket. At *he request of the police the case was remanded °Ehl to day.
