Commercial.

Pbess Office, March 26, 1870. Trade in all branches remains quiet, and nothing of importance has transpired during the week. Wheat is coming forward in large parcels, and exports now are becoming very heavy. The Joliba has just sailed for Sydney with upwards of 2500 bags of wheat and 1500 do of barley and oats. All the Melbourne Bteamers take large parcels of oats, and heavy shipments of wheat are constantly going forward to Auckland and Wellington. A great drawback exists in the difficohy of getting the stuff threshed, and we understand that several of the larger farmers intend importing new machinery in time for next season. The vessels now in port and loading for London will be delayed some little time, although every effort is being made to get the threshing completed. Wheat l continues stationary at 3a for good samples. Storage [ accommodation is offering in abundance, I and there, is. now. every facility to hold | for better prices. Barley is selling readily at 3s 7d <o 3s 9d for malting, and in more than one instance higher lias been offered. Moderate parcels for export may be purchased at 3s 3d to 3s Gd. Oata are being shipped heavily, but prices for first-claea samples do not advance beyond 33 to 2s 2d, while inferior parcels may be obtained at Is lOd. The , import market is unaltered; and quotations are barely Sustained. The demand 'for" teas ' has not improved to.any extent, if we except a slightly better feeling Jfor fine qualities. Orange pekoe and gunpowder are in fair f request, aa stocks have worked, off. Tbe report that the Zingari would disoharge her sugars at Hobart Town has turned out incorrect, as she is now in Dunedin, and will bring on the, Canterbury portion as soon as possible, when the shipment will be offered by auction; good prices will no doubt be obtained, as our stocks are much reduced. Fine salt has been moved at £4.153 to £4 17s 6d, but stocks are increasing. New season's hops are in active request at Is9d to lslOd, as supplies are not heavy, and the last advices from England tend to strengthen values. A few lines of English, malt have been moved off, but the improved quality of our local manufactures is checking the demand for imported parcels. Corhsacks are in active request at 14s 6d, on terms, but imports continue heavy, and prevent anything, like _n advance. Kerpsene is firm at 3s Id to 3s 3d, as stocks are not beyond our requirements. Candles are quoted at llf d for favorite brands, while Brandon's, Neva's, ancl..other" brands .are a- shade easier. In tobaccoes a steady business is doing in superior twists at ls7_d to lsßd. Spirits move off slowly at late quotations. Case whisky meets with a good demand, but enquiries are principally confined to Kinahan's L L and Dunville's.
