Dunedin, March 16, 5.24 p.m. Logan's party at Cromwell washed up two thousand ounces of amalgam last night, from crushing sixty tons of stone. It is supposed that the yield will be ten ounces to the ton. It is reported that there has been a discovery of petroleum in the suburbs of Dunedin. The G-overnment have received news of the arrival of the survey party at Lake Kakapo on the 28th ult. The Charles Edward was wrecked on a snag at the entrance of the river. It will cost £1000 to raise her. Southland sends three representatives to the colonial prize firing. Two of these are from Biverton. They made 48 and 43 points respectively. Invercargill sends one; he made 43 points.
