CLAYTON, Architect to the Commission. 9th February, 1869. 2-15 THE PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT of CANTERBURY, New Zealand, is prepared to RECEIVE PROPOSALS for the CONSTRUCTION of a RAILWAY between Chrietchurch and the South Bank of the River Kowai, a distance of about twentysix miles, in accordance with the following resolutions of the Provincial Council:— " 1. That capitalists be invited to undertake the construction of a cheap railway - from Christchurch to the South Bank of the Kowai, and to furnish the necessary rolling stock, buildings, &c." "2. That it be a request to the Government to take by Ordinance or otherwise such steps as may be necessary to make £30,000 of the unexpended balance of the loan, and any interest that may accrue thereon, available as a fund for guaranteeing capitalists' interest on the cost of the said railway." "3. That before any tender be accepted the sanction of the Provincial Council be first obtained." THE PROVINCIAL GOVERMENT will receive applications for free passages for single women—domestic servants- —between the ages of fifteen and thirty-five; and for assisted passages for families and single men. WHEREAS great loss and damage have from time to time been caused to Bush and other lands, being Waste Lands of the Crown in this province, from the careless or malicious conduct of individuals in setting fire thereto, I hereby give notice that a reward of £25 will be given by the Provincial Government to any person who ehall give such information as shall lead to the conviction of any offender, from whose carelessness or maliciousness any such fire can be proved to have originated.
