A MEMORIAL having been presented to the Board of Education from a considerable portion of the inhabitants of the Halkett district (as hereinafter described) stating that no provision has been made for public school education in the said district, and praying for the erection of such district into a separate educational district, I hereby give notice, in accordance with the provisions of the Education Ordinance, 1864, that a PUBLIC MEETING of the owners and occupiers of land and householders resident in the said district will be held on SATURDAY, tho 6th day of MARCH, 1869, at seven o'clock pm, at Watson's Half-way House Hotel, West Coast road, for the purpose of ascertaining whether such owners,occupierß, and houeeholdere are ■willing that t.ho eoid district should be formed into an educational district ; also for ascertaining whether such owners, occupiers, and householders are willing to provide the proportion of tho annual expenees of an educational district to be paid by such district, as provided by the Education Ordinance/1864. The following ie tho description of the proposed district:, — Commencing at a point on the southern bank of the River Waimakariri in a line with the north-western corner of section 3802, thence continuing the said line southerly along the western boundary of the said section, thence crossing the road at (tie south of this section and continuing the line along the western boundary of section 3801, thence in a straight line to the northwestern corner of section 8751, thenoe southerly'along the western boundaries of this latter section and of sectione 9204, 9170, and 9089, to the south- • ; western corner of the latter section, thence easterly along its southern boundary to the road lying to the west of section 8954, thence southerly along such road to the junction with the road Jying to the southwest of section 8788, thence south-easterly along this latter road to its junction with . the road lying to the south of sections 8899 and 7958 (Bealey's Track), thence easterly along this latter road to the .south-east corner of section, ,6469, thence in a straight line.; to the easternmost corner of section 7995, thence continuing the earn© straight line to the south batik of the River Waimakariri, and thence westerly along such bank to the starting point.
