Agentjbr Canterbury 7-3 W. L. Hawkins. Public Notice. IMPORTANT TO SQUATTEKS. MESSRS. G. D. LOCKHART & CO. huving been appointed Sole Agents for the Sale of Messrs- E. HERNULKVVICZ & Co.'c GALVANIZKD STRAND WIRE, beg to inform the public that a saving of £22 Is is eil'ected to every 3,200 lineal yarde compared with the cost of solid black wiro, so extensively ndvert.sed as the most desirable fencing wire. Tho undermentioned facts will prove the contrary. Comparative Cost of ottb Fencing and that with Solid Wise :— One ton of our Fencing will make 3200 lineal yards (1 mile and 1440 yards) of Fencing with five Horizontal Wires at £27 per ton £27 But to make 3200 lineal yards of Fencing, with five Horizontal Wires of No. 5 Solid Wire requires 2 tons 13 cwt. at £12 per ton £31 16 0 Therefore the cost of 3200 yards of Solid Wiro Fencing dehV vered f.o.b. in this country is above ours £4 16 0 Freight to the colony on 3200 lineal yards of our Fencing— One ton at say £2 7s 6d per ton £2 7 6 Do do on say 3200 yards Fencing with Solid Wiro 2 tone 13 cwt. at £2 7s6d ... £6 5 10 Therefore the cost of freight of 3200 yards of Solid Wire Fencing over ours is ... £3 18 The erection of 3200 yards of our Fencing, say at 2d per yard ...£26 13 4 Do do of 3200 yards Solid Wire Fencing at 3d per yard ...£4O. 0 O Therefore the cost of erection of 3200 yds of Solid Iron Wire Fencing over that of ours is £13 6 8 Total Saving on 3200 yards of Fencing ... £22 1 O

So that our Improved Galvanizod Wire Fenc« ing, with five Horizontal Wires, erected in the Colony is cheaper than the Solid Wire Fencing by the cum of Twenty-two Potuide One Shilling on every 8200 lineal yards. Beyond this, there is the question of Inland Carriage in the Colony, which on the Solid Wire Fencing will bo nearly three times that of Strand Wire Fencing. Our Fencing will last from forty to fifty years, ngainet ten to fifteen years, the extent of the durability of the other. The great heat during the day, aud the damp during the night, cause the ungolvanized wiro to ruet and decay rapidly. We have contrasted our Galvanized Wiro Strand with No. 5 Solid Wire, because it is fully equal in strength to that gauge (the wire of which the Strand is composed being of the very best quality.) Noe. 6, 7, and 8, Solid Wire of inferior quality and very brittle, is sometimes shipped, which, while not so cheap as the Galvanized Wire Strand, is much weaker—won't stand so much strain, and will not last much oven ten years.
