TO THE EDITOR OP THB PBE3S. Sib,—ln yoar report; of the proceedings of this society, I see that the question of reimbursing Mr Johnson his expenses in obtaining the trout ova from Tasmania h'ts been refused. This, in connection with the blame which has been freely bestowed on him, for his carelessness in allowing two of the fish to escape into a pond not prepared for their reception, leads one to form a very unfavourable opinion as to the wisdom or justice of such a decision—more particularly as the journey was undertaken by Mr Johnson at his own expense and rick, on account of the committee having previously decided that owing to the limited means at their disposal the attempt of introducing fish was to be given up for this season. With a balance now in hand of upwards of £300, it appears as if the receipts are much larger than they were at that time anticipated they would be. Believing the introduction of salmon and trout to be the most important object of the society, I cannot but feel that such illiberal treatment is injudicious towards one who has shown himself so zealous a supporter of the movement, and to which ill-paid services the society is indebted for its present high position.
