Lyttelton v. Mount Herbert.

A match was played at the Head of the Bay, on Mr Gebbie'a paddoi-k, between the members of these dubs. The Lyttelton men left Port at half-past seven a.m., and arrived on the ground in time for a short practice, before the comoiencement of the match. At five minutes past ten a.m. the wickets were pitched, and Lyttelton,having won the toee, took thofirst innings, eendinginSymeon and Watson to the bowling of Messrs Stillwell and Cooper, who stack to it throughout the innings. The bowling of Cooper was moat effective, eight wickets being taken in seven overs bowled by him. Stillwell, in eight overs, took one wicket, that of Mr G-watkin, who made the highest score in thie innings (8). Watson made a good stand for 5, being unfortunate in hitting, as will be seen by the score. The whole of the . Lytteltonians were disposed of for 24. On resuming play the Mount. Herbert men sent in R. Cooper and John Linster to the bowling of Nalder and Cuff. Nalder took three wickets for " duck eggs " (two in one over) On the part of Mount Herbert Wright and Murray made an excellent stand, the former making 36, consisting of ten twos, two threes, &o. Murray's of 17* consisted of three threes, one two, and singles. At the close of the ihninga the Mount Herbert men had scored 70, leaving the Lytteltonians 47 to win. The players and spectators at the conclusion of this innings partook of a capital luncheon, provided by the Mount Herbert Olub, after which the Lytteltoniuns sent in Hawkins and Watson, Stillwell and Cooper being again bowlers- In this innings the Lyttelton men were evidently on their mettle, and great improvement was apparent in their play. Cuff's 13, consisting of one four, one three, two twos, and singles, were well played, Gwatkin making the second score of another 8, both of which were very steadily and well played. Lyttelton retired with a score of 51, leaving the Mount Herbert men with 6 to beat.

Stillwell and Murray wentin, the former, being quickly disposed ,©"f (1?y Cuff, who waa bowling well. Wright then joined Murray, and succeeded in carrying off the match, having scored 4, Stillwell 1 and 1 wide.
