RESIDENT MAGISTRATES' COURTS.

Chbistchuboh—November 29. [Before C. C. BoWen, Esq., R.M.] William Wilson was charged, on information, with being the owner of three flocks of Bcubby sheep. His Worship inflicted a fine of £100 in the first two cases, and of £50 in the other ; the fines to be remitted if clean certificates are produced by the 10th of March next. George Smith was charged with robbery from the person. Constable McCann deposed that he went to tho White Hart on the evening of the 27th instant. He saw the prisoner throw a watch on the floor, which wns identified by prosecutor as his property. He arrested prisoner, and cautioned him.

H. Orpwood said he was a farmer. He had lately arrived in Christchurch, and was staying kt the White Hurt. On the evening of tlie 27th he hud been drinking, and fell asleep, and on waking missed his watch and some other property he had about him. Amongst the other things were a deposit receipt on the Bank of New South Wales, a £5 note, and a £1 note, which were in a pocket-book l .

Robert Main said he, saw prisoner on the Ferry road on the 27th. Prisoner came on to Christchurch. He (witness) exohanged watches with him on the road. Prisoner was carrying the watch he had in his trouser pocket. He saw prosecutor at the White Hart the same evening, who claimed the watch he (witnes*) had as his. He eventually got his own watch back from prisoner, and gave him back the stolen one. Shortly after that prisoner was arrested

J. Holmes deposed that he had received a deposit receipt for £95 {torn prisoner, which he now producedi

The evidence was. then read over to the prisoner, who declined to say anything. His Worship committed him for trial ot the next sessions of the Supreme Court* Thomas Jaques was charged with assaulting a little girl of eight years of age, with intent. The particulars of the case are unfit for publication. The prisoner was remanded till Saturday. Lytte_to_—-November 29. [Before Wm. Donald, Esq., R.M.] Wm.
