The ship Bluejacket, Captain James White, amred -in Lyttelton harbour yesterday from London, after a splendid run of se?entv-six days. Had s'eady N.E. rades from thence, and lost them in latitude 10° X., longitude 26° W. Had little or no •aim weather in the doldrums, and took 'he S E. trades in latitude 7 N ; they were fir south. Crossed the Equator July 10. at forty-five minutes past one a m.. in longitude 29 W. Had fresh favourable S.E. trades, which carried us well to the southward. July 21. passed a supposed wreck, or dead whale ; it was four feet out of the water, and the sea was breaking around it, and numerous hir 1? were seen upon ir; the weather was too foggy to distinguish what it really was. Latitude (brought back from noon) 46" 45', longitude 24° W., is near the position we saw it in. July 25, passed north of Goff Island, distant about thirty miles. Passed meridian of Greenwich July 27, and that of the Cape of Good Hope on July 31.' Had strong westerly winds, and after passing Crozelles and Kerguelen Islands ran our easting down in latitude 47° and 48° respectively, until August 15. In latitude 47° 56', longitude 102" 55' E., encountered a heevy cyclone of short duration, commencing at. N.K., veering eastward, and blowing out at W.S W„ when ihe barometer fell to the extraordinary low state of 28.25; ran the ship the S.W -ix hours, so as to get on the S.W. quadrum ■>f the storm. At # midnght my anticipations •»ere realised, the wind veering to the st>ur!i.vestward, wore ship to the cast, a fearful se.i mining at the time and boiling up on ill sides of us August 16, the gale abated ; wind W.S.VV. This cyclone delayed my passage very much, as the ship had iv t.o kept under low sail in consequence of the low state of the weatherglasses. Monday, August 19, passed the meridian of the Cape Leeuwin, in latitude 47° 38' S. Friday, August. 23, passed that of Port Phillip, in latitude 47° 40' 3. Tuesday, August 27, at half-past nine a.m , passed south of Stewart's Island, and saw the sea breaking very high on the South Trap rocks. August 23, wind N, at noon, Otago Heads bore S. by E, about twenty-two miles, and made Banks Peninsula at noon on the 29th. Anchored off Gollans Bay at two p.m. on the 30th. No deaths occurred on the passage. Dr McDonald is again the surgeon of the ship, and the whole of the passengers speak in the highest terms of his care.
