The Panama, New Zealand, and Australian Royal Mail Company's s.s. Lord Ashley, Captain Worep, arrived from Dunedin at halfpast twelve p.m. yesterday. She left Dunedin at half-past one p.m. on the previous day, and experienced fine weather. : She sailed again for Wellington yesterday at ten minutes',past four p.m. The ship Red Rover, Captain Macauley at rived in harbour from London, and anchored off Camp Bay at ten iv in yesterday. We are> furnished with the following report of the L.-.v Captain Mauauley:— Tl)e vessel, which has been a regular trader from London to Melbourne and back direct for the lust four yenre, left Gravesend on the 16th of May, and «as detained for ten daye in the Channel on account of contrary winds. The pilot left vessel off Dover on the 18th of May, and from thence experienced fine weather to the south extremity of the south-east trades, the weather being tine throughout. From thence to the meridian of the Cape of Good Hope had very variable winds. Crossed the "equator "on Wednesday, the 19th''of June t - in 24 c west longitude,, and passed the meridian of tlie Cape on the 21st of July, in 40S 50' south latitude; ran the eas'tihg ; down in from 45° to 47° south latitude. Experienced very heavy gales with -hard squall* from the Capetlntil arrival off the coast of •Wβw Zealand, with heavy snow storms.' No land was sighted before the New Zealand coast, : Otago heads being first sighted on Friday morning last From that point, cnlms and light variable winds prevailed until Wednesday, the 28th, on which day anchored off the Heads at eight pm. Die anchor was weighed at daylight yesterday, and the vessel brought to an anchor off Camp Bay (as above stated) at ten a.m., being unable to proceed further up the harbour for want of wind, The whole of the passengers ; are reported in good health, and speak in the highest terms of thekindness and courtesy of Captain Mucauley.. Off the Cape, two of the seamen, named K. Lopus and Frederick Hordy. were washed overboard during-; one •of the squalls above mentioned, and, in spite of the utmost endeavours of the captain and crew, were lost. A boat was lowered, manned by five of the crew ; the boat.and .five oars werv lost, and tlie crew had a niost narrow escape, but were saved by means of ropes,.&c. '-l'wo life-buoys Were also lost on the same day. Novessels, were spoken on the passage. On the 21st instant Mrs T. G. A. C. Cochrane was prematurely delivered of a son. No deaths Wjith ;th.e exception of.the two seamen recorded, occurred on.the voyage.
