KAIAPOI STEEPLECHASES.
The entries for these events closed on Friday evening. It will be seen from the list that ten of the best cross country nags in the province have been•' entered for the Cap and Waimakariri Stakes. The following are the entries :— Thk Cup. Mr W. Moorhouse's g.g. Larry Mr F. H. Spinke's b. g. Merrimao. Mr W. Bowler's eh. m. Jessie. Mr Collison's g. m Banshee. Mr W. D. Barnard's g. g. Don Pedro. Thb Waimakabibi Stakes. Mγ W. Moorhoiue's b. g. Terrie: Mr F. H. Spink'e b. g. Forlorn Hope. Mr C. Oram's eh. g. Pre-emptive Right. Mr Lund's eh. g. Gingerbread. MrG. Oeborne's g. gi Bushman. For the Hack Race (post entries) a number of horses were expected to come to the post. Mr Stevens has succeeded in laying out an excellent course, and one from which all the jumps can be seen from the grand stand. The distance to the coarse is about a mile and a half from Kaiapoi, and should the day (Thursday next) prove fine, a good day , * sport may be anticipated. We hear that it is the intention of Messrs Cobb and Co. to run coaches to the ground during the day.
