Miscellaneous. UNIVERSAL EXHIBITION OP MERINO WOOL. IT is proposed that an Exhibition of Merini Wool, open to the whole world, shall bi held in London in August, 1867, and tha Prizes shall be awarded as follows :— Class I. For the most valuable bale of sixty ewes fleeces of washed wool, £200 For second best, £ For third best, £ Class 11. For the most valuable bale of sixty ewes fleeces, in grease, £200 For second best, £ For third beet, £ Class m. For washed fleece wool of any sheep ove twelve months old, of the highes value per lb., in a bale of not lea than 200 lbs. weight, and from no more than 150 sheep, £100. For second best, £ For third besc, £ The bales in Classes I. and 11. which are c the greatest money value, computing weigh and price, to win the prizes. Bales for exhibition and competition to b forwarded to Messrs James Morrison and Co Philpot lane, London, so as to be with thei not later than August 10, 1867, to be the valued by judges appointed by at least thre well-known London wool brokers. Th prizes to be awarded according to the repoi of these judges. The bales of wool to be sol by public auction, and the proceeds handed t the owner. CONDITIONS. For the first and second classes the fleecf must be entire, as shorn from the sheep, ii eluding locks and pieces. For the third-class tho wool may be take from as many sheop ac the exhibitor choose provided the number does not exceed 150. Competitors may enter as many lots ac the choose, but can only take one prize in eac class. The wool to be judged as if free from gras seeds, or burrs. For forms of declaration apply to Messes. H. Matson & Co., and GrKOUQS D. LOCKHAHT, Christchurch. Competitors will have to state — 1. The date of last shearing. 2. The time that elapsed between the la shearing and the one immediate before it, such time to be expresse in days. (See below.) The shee to be honestly and closely shorn c both occasions. 3. The age of the sheep. 4. The breed of the sheep. 5. How the sheep have been fed—whetVn on natural grasses Or on artifici; grasses; and if on the latter, tl names (common and botanical) to I stated; if on other artificial fooi such food to be stated. 6. Whether running all the year rouri in the open air, or whether house or stall-fed ; or whether partly i the open air and partly under cove and if so, for what portion of tl ■year. All entries to be sent, and all entrance fei to be paid to John W. M'Laren, Esq., Mess James Morrison, and Co., Philpot-lane Londoi on or before 3lst July, 1867A form of declaration embodying the aboi to be signed by the exhibitor before a magi trate or clergyman, or other person in ai thority, and to be forwarded when the entry made. No wool will be allowed to compete which of more than three hundred and eighty (38( days' growth. Fleeces under twelve months' growth to hai a proportionate allowance made in their favi for the difference between their actual age ai twelve months, and those over twelve month growth to have a proportionate deduction mac on the same principle. The Judges will be requested to furnish tabular statement, showing the position of eat lot, according to its value, and to draw up report, expressing the qualities and deficienci of each exhibit as fully, and as free from teci nical terms as possible. Balee to be marked with a distinguishii brand, in ink, which is not to be the usu brand of the exhibitor.
