ORPHAN ASYLUM
A meeting of the Committee of Management of the Orphan Asylum was held on Thursday, at half-past four o'clock, in the City Cuuncil office Present — The Lord Bishop of Christchurch (chairman), and Messrs J. l>. Hawkes and Or. Gordon. The Secretary (Mr Stanley) read the minute« of the la*t meeting, which were confirmed. A report from the Ladies' Committee was read, accompanying it was a list of the stock of clothing belonging to the establishment, showing whiit was in use and what in store. Tho Secretary was desired to convey to the ladies the thinks of the Committee of Management, and it wa3 resolved that stock of all clothing should be taken twice in t\w year— on the 30th of June and the 31st December; the same to be reported to the Committee of Management at its next meeting. Chaff for all the beds was ordered to be procured at once. The Secretary reported that the roof required repairs ; also the yard gate. lie was directed to have both repaired ; the litter to be well painted, and kept locked. Mrs lloare sent in her resignation as one of the ladies' committee, and Mrs Coward wus elected in her place. The ladies' report book was submitted. It stated that the houso nnd children were in a satisfactory state. Some articles of clothing were required, which were ordered. The resignation of the m>itron wus received. The Secretary was directed to advertise for a competent person, applications to be considered at a specinl met-ting of tho rorumittee, to bo summoned for Thursday, April 4
The number of children in the house at present is thirty-five.
Some accounts were ordered to be paid, and the committee adjourned.
