RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

CHBrSTOHUEOH—August 4. [Before C. C. Bowen, Esq., R.M.] David Crowly and James Cleary were charged with being drunk and incapable ; the former was fined se, having been up before for the same offence, and the latter was dismissed with a caution. Charles Wilkey, for being drunk and disorderly, and creating a disturbance, was fined 20?. E. W. Millett and Edward Griffiths were charged with riding furiously in High street on Tuesday last; both the defendants admitted the charge. It appeared from the evidence of the constable that they were both excited, and that they had had a race in the street. The Resident Magistrate said that this offence was becoming really dangerous, and when persons in the position of the defendants were guilty of it, he would make an example of them, and fine thorn more heavily than an ordinary offender. They ought to have known better; he would fine them £3 each, and hoped it would be a warning. Lxttelton —Auguat 4. [Before W. Donald, Esq., R.M.] Henry McKeohenie was brought up on remand, charged with having a pair of stolen boots in his possession. A doubt having arisen as to the positive identification of the boots, the Bench gave the prisoner the benefit of the doubt, and discharged him with a caution. Arthur Mullen, alias Thomas Brown, was charged with being drunk and disorderly, and fined 10s.
