ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

TO TBX yntTSOBfOB MB * PBSBS.'

Dbab Sir,—Having seen an account in the papers of to-day of a meeting of the Acclimatisation Society, wherein mention is made of an intention to procure fish from, Tasmania, it has struck mc that a great boon would be conferred upon this province if the Society would at the same time obtain ~some insectivorous birds; hundreds could easily be got in Tasmania at a very trifling ooet. As a proof of what good they would do, I may mention a circumstance which came nnder nay own notice. Some time since I daily observed numbers .of gulls' flying inland from the sea in the' morning, and returningtowarde afternoon: IshoEone, andfound its crop to contain folly one hundred caterpillars, of various sizes. I never knew sea-gulls to feed upon insects in any place I hare been in before, and think they only do to herettecause auch food is much more easily obtained titan euch as they are accustomed to find about the sea shore.'

Should you consider the above worthy of a place in your valuable and widely circulated journal, please insert it.
