WELLINGTON.
The Independent of tbe 17th has the following iaporfc:— There is little change to note in our last quotations for the monthly summary. Messrs. Kebbell quote Hour at £1 per ton lower than it was, but in other - articles, there is no change. Business during the week has been quiet, not much being done owing to "_b* departure'of the English matt. At the Commercial Sale Boom, a sale by auction of tobacco and dears, was held on Wednesday last, by Alfred A. Barnett. Buyers were not very numerous, and but a few lota were disposed of. A parcel of Barrett's twist; duty paid, fetched Ss 3d per lb; Havana cigars, La. Parria brand, brought £8 per thousand out of bond. The stock of tobacco and cigars in the market is very heavy, and farther supplies are expected; this, and the late increase of duty, all tend to keep prices down. Inferior qualities are scarcely saleable at all; choice southern brands of aromatic might be moved off. Holders of tens cavendish must submit to a loss if* anxious to sell at the present time.
