OTAGO.

Wβ hare our files from Otago to the 25tli inst.; the latest market report is in the Daily limes, of the 22nd. The week just closed has been a dull one, the scarcity of cartage, the inclement weather, and the departure of the English mails combined, having prevented business assuming much activity. The latest news from Hokitika is of a more encouraging nature. It would appear, however, that our traders will have to encounter considerable competition in the supply of that market from Melbourne houses, who, just at the present, are making heavy shipments there. Hour —Adelaide—The demand continues for small parcels only, for which quotations are £24 10s to £25; Chilian, goes off with much more briskness, and the last cargoes of this sort are fast leaving first hands; Provincial is asked for, but the supply is small. In sugars and teas, transactions have been nearly confined to trade parcels, prices remaining at about last week's quotations. Bulk ales. —New brew; none offering from first handa. Shipments expected per Jessie Gilbert and Lizzie Southard have been mostly already placed. In spirits, no operations of any magnitude have transpired. MartelTs and Hennessy's brandies are held for 8s 9d; but buyers as yet refuse to take any quantity at the figure. Henneesy's case brandy is scarce, and Renault's case is now held for the higher rate of 245. In provisions, the demand is steady, Hams and butter are scarce, and parcels arriving promptly sell. Sinclair's bacon (new), has been placed at Hid.
