The Daily Times of the 28th instant reports:— j Business has been but moderately active. Orders have come forward freely from the interior, but a scarj city of cartage partially prevents their execution. The principal item of importance in the day's transactions ! has been the placing by tbe importers in one line of the cargo of Chilian flour, ex Wheatland ; the exact price has not transpired, but believed to be about £17. An extensive demand for Chilian flour for shipment, which is just now taking place, will so far immediately diminish stocks as probably to leave prices comparatively near recent rates. Adelaide has been placed in small parcels at £24 10s to £25. In the absence of late news from Hokitika, trade in supplies for that port is dall. No auction sales of importance have occurred. The same journal of the 29th says :— Business still continues without any great animation. Brandies and whiskies are enquired for, but buyers are as yet unwilling to concede the advance asked by holders. Medium and low coupons in halfchests are in good demand, with scarcely any in stock. In the flour market but little has been done through the day; prices are in Borne measure less firm. Li noticing tne sale of the cargo of Chilian flour ex Wheatland yesterday, a price was stated at or about which it was believed it had been placed. We have now the authority of-the parties to the transaction for saying that the actual rate was considerably in advance of the sum named. Messrs Mljandress, Hepburn and Co, held a large sale of imported furniture, at the Universal Bond, obtaining a fair margin upon invoice cost for most goods.
