THE GOVERNOR'S VISIT.
TO THE SDITOB OF THB 'PBESS.' Sib, —Amongst the rations festivities given to I grace the visit of the Governor, I have not seen it > mentioned tbat the Musical Society is to take any k part. I have heard a report that some of the authorities in the Society have had a meeting, and have determined that the Society cannot, or shall not. give a concert. This may not be true. Nor have I i heard the causes assigned for the neglect of duty. I Whether the Society is supposed to be exhausted with its labors in getting tip the " Messiah," or is too 5 modest to exhibits its performances whilst the Opera » Company is present, J. do not know; but I think it i should be stated that the Society generally have not been consulted in the matter, nor asked whether it would like to pay such a compliment to his Excel- ' lency or not. And I believe the feeling of some of ' the members is, that if the Society cannot give a 7 concert on such an occasion at a fortnight's notice, i the sooner it ceases to pretend to be a Musical - Society, the better. J lam, Sir, ' A Membeb.
