RANGIORA AND MANDEVILLE ROAD BOARD.
A meeting of the ratepayers of the above district was held on the 23rd instant, at Woodend, for the purpose ef electing a member of the Board in the I room of Mr. Jagoe resigned. Mr. Blackett proposed the Hon. George Leslie Lee, who was seconded by Capt. D'Auverync. ! Mr. Bevell proposed Mr. William Norman, seconded by Mr. Clark. Upon a show of hands being taken it was declared to be in favor of the Hon. G. L. Lee. A poll was then demanded on behalf of Mr. Norman; the election proceeded, and at the close of the poll the result was declared to be as follows.—The Hon. George Leslie Lee, 144 ; Mr. William Norman, 46. Mr. Jagoo addressed the meeting, and thanked the ratepayers for the manner in which they had previously elected him as member of the Board, and now begged to apologise for having resigned, which was owing to the duties of the office interfering with the prosecution of his private business, but he had always taken gre.-it pleasure in forwarding the interests of the district in connection with the other members of the Board whilst in office. A meeting of the Board was held on the 25th inst. Present: Messrs. Dixon, Beswick, G. H. Lee, McFar" lane, and the hon. G. L. Lee. Mr. Dixon in the chair. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. A letter was read from the Secretary of Public Works, enclosing copy of a letter from Mr. Wylde relating to the Eyre and Ohoko drainage. The Surveyor's report was read. It was proposed by the hon. G. L. Lee, seconded by Mr. Beswick:— " That the road on the original Government Reserve, by Section 1087, be made, and that the road commenced through Section 698 be abandoned." Carried. It was proposed by the hon. G. L. Lee, seconded by Mr. McFarlane : —"That the Surveyor report upon the road which will give the most: relief to that portion of tho district south of the Eyre drain, and prepare an estimate of the expense of such road." Mr. Harrison aud Mr. Young attended the Board in reference to road through their sections. The Surveyor was instructed to reply to the letter from the Secretary of Public Works ; also to report oil the road by Mr. Harrison's, and ascertain if a roadway could be obtained through a portion of the Maori reserve. The Surveyor was instructed to insert advertisements in the papers, to the effect that the Ratepayers' Roll will lie at the office of the Board for inspection after Wednesday the 27th July inst. Accounts to the amount of £G23 2s 10.} d were ordered to be paid. The meeting adjourned until the Bth August.
