CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

A meeting of the Chamber of Commerce was held yesterday, at the rooms; George Buckley, Esq., in the chair.

Present: Messrs. Aynsly, Gould, Miles, Hassail, W. Bowler, T. Ritchie, Montgomery, Curtis, and Day.

The minutes of the last meeting having been read and confirmed,

The report of the sub-committee was presented, relative to a suitable place in which to hold the future meetings of the Chamber. The report stated that the committee had communicated with various persons on the matter, but they had resolved to continue to occupy the building already in use, pending the completion of a largo building proposed to be erected by Mr. W. Wilson, on the section on which the offices of Messrs. Aikman and Wilson now etand. The new building would be completed early in next year.

Some discussion followed, after which it was moved by Mr. Haesall, and seconded by MrBowler, " That the report of the sub-committee be adopted, with the following proviso: that the plan of the proposed building be first submitted for the approval of the Committee, aud the rent should then be agreed upon between Mr. Wilson and the Chamber." Carried.

Some discussion followed respecting the room at Lyttelton ; and a resolution to the following effect, moved by Mr. Kitchie, seconded by Mr. Bowler, was carried—" That the room should be kept open for the use of the captains of foreign vessels visiting the port, and that the secretary be directed to notify the resolution to them."

A resolution respecting furnishing additional papers to the rooms in Christchurch and Lyttelton was lost.

A resolution was proposed by Mr. Carter, seconded by Mr. Gould :—" That, to facilitate the transaction of business in Christchurch, the hour from two until three p.m. every day shall be considered 'change hour; and merchants generally ire requested to meet at the rooms of the Chamber of Commerce at that hour for the purpose of carrying out the above regulation." Carried.

A letter was read from the Provincial Secretary, in answer to one addressed by the Chamber of Commerce relative to the dangerous condition of the river Heathcote and the impediments to navigation. The reply stated that the Government would take steps to provide a temporary remedy till the Marine Board ehall have commenced its duties.
