One of the most important events of the past month is the recognition of the kingdom of Italy by Prussia, a stop which, after delay, is now understood to be fully taken. It is said that the Italians are menaced with a new difficulty. A party around the king ie strongly urging him to suspend parliamentary government and

assume a dictatorehip. It seems that the king perpenally dislike, the premier Baron Ricaeoli, whom however, the Parliament resolutely supports, lnere no fear, however, of the king being induced to stretch oThbbU against the eoo.tii.tio..statute, whjoh he has done so much to preserve. The Italian correspondent of a London paper averts j that the Bourbonians in Rome are organizing a new invasion of the Neapolitan provinces and are perfectly confident of success. The month of May is hxed for the grand coup. The Italian government is aware ot the preparations, but does not seem much frightened. Victor Emmanuel's government has in vain endeaToured to reprees uproarious popular manifestations, demanding Rome as'the national capital, which have been made during the last week or two in all the principal towns of Italy. At Naples several priests have taken part in them. The death of the Pope is an event which may be anticipated speedily, and it can scarcely fail to hasten the crisis of Italian affaire. Independently of his advanced age, and the infimities which have notoriously haunted him through life, his symptoms now indicate disease of the heart; and the medical calculation is reported to be that, while he can scarcely last a year, the catastrophe is most likely to be soon and sudden.
