'TMIE PRIZE SHOOTING of the Christchurch * Companies for the General Government Prizes will tnke place at the new Rifle Range, Haglcy Park, on Wednesday next, the 90th inst, weather permitting. All intending competitors will parade upon that day at the Magazine, at J before 9 o'clock a.m. with arms and accoutrements complete; pouches are not required to be worn. (JENTLEMEN,— My attention has been called to " a paragraph in the ' Standard' of this day's date bearing [ the title ' Election Notices—District of Heathcote,' in which only the names of Messrs. Murray and Waitt appear as candidates ; leading the public to suppose that I had retired. Such however is not the fact, moreover I can inform you positively that there will be a poll, for it is intended to put Mr. Ollivier in nomination, and although he, I believe, desires to retire from public life, he cannot refuse such a mark of respect as his re-election, when it is almost forced upon him. The nomination will take place at Christchurch Quay, on Wednesday next, April 30th, and tho poll on the following day, May Ist. I have no hesitation Gentlemen, in asking you to take no notice of the paragraph alluded to (which 1 believe to bo merely an attempt, by misleading you, to pay off an old score with mc for not advertising in the • Standard'), but to come early to the poll and vote for Your obedient servant, E.
