SOUTHLAND.
On Friday, the 28th, the province of Southland completed its first year. The day was, of course, observed as a holiday, though no kind of public demonstration was made, the citizens wending their way into the country to enjoy the splendid weather. The province is now fairly in progress, being pretty clear of the obstructions and difficulties attending its movements. The Provincial legislation is also assuming shape; tbe last northern mail brought down eleven of the ordinances assented to by the Governor, the remaining two or three having been detained evidently for further consideration.— Otago Colonist.
