NEW ZEALAND.
AUCKLAND. TESTIMONIAL TO GOVERNOR GORE BROWNE. We learn with great pleasure that steps have been taken at Auckland to raise funds for a testimonial to His Excellency Governor Gore Browne, on the occasion of his leaving this colony. It is intended that the testimonial shall be a piece of plate, of New Zealand gold, and bear the following inscription : —
"To Colonel Thomas Gork Browne, C. 8., Governor of New Zealand, from sth September, 1855> to 1861. from colonists of New Zealand, in recognition of an honourable, enlightened, and impartial administration of the Government of the colony, and in testimony of private worth."
The General Committee of Management, formed in Auckland for the purpose of carrying the object into effect, consists of the following gentlemen :—The Speaker of the Legislative Council; the Speaker of the House of Bepresentatives ; Hon.
