RANGIORA
Public Meettxg. —A well attended meeting of the inhabitants of Rangiora was held at the Freemasons Hall, Rangiora, on Thursday last, to take into consideration the desirableness of memorializing his Honor the Superintendent on several matters of importance connected with the welfare of the District. Resolutions to the following effect were unanimon sly passed, viz.— That his Honor be petitioned to take the necessary steps for proclaiming a Township and Country district at Eangiora, and that both be represented in the Provincial Council. That his Honor be petitioned to place on the estimates of the ensuing year, a sum sufficient to cover the cost of forming and metalling an additional mile and a half of the Ilarewood road, westward of the junction of the direct Kaiapoi and Ilarewood roads, and also a sum to defray the expense of raising and widening the bridge near Steggalls Mill, on the aforesaid Harewood Road. A separate petition having reference to the Rangiora and Kaiapoi direct road and drain having been got up and signed by the inhabitants of Rangiora and Kaiapoi previous to the meeting. Tliat his Honor be petitioned to take the necessary steps for the erection of a public pound at Rangiora. The meeting then terminated with a vote of thanks to the Chairman, Mr. J. B. Wilson, and to the Freemasons for the use of tbe Hall.
