Local Maoris To Honour Tainui
Tribes from Whakatane, the Rangitaiki Plains and the Urewera Country will be represented at the sexcentennial celebrations to mark the 600th anniversary of the arrival of the. Tainui canoe in New Zealand to be held at Ngaruawahia this weekend. Two buses will take a large party from Ruatoki. This will include the haka. troop that was used to welcome the official visitors at the Matatua celebrations. \ -: ,
Representatives of the Maori .people from Whakatane, Te Teko, Paroa and Poroporo will also be members of parties to honour Tainui.
