Whakatane Support For Tauranga Resolution
Support for a Tauranga suggestion that 20 per cent, of the net gate receipts of representative Bay of Plenty Rugby matches should go to the sub-union on whose ground the game was played was voiced by members of the Whakatane Rugby Sub-Union at the fortnightly executive meeting. The remainder of the receipts would go to the Bay of Plenty Union. At the present time sub-unions arranged Bay of Plenty games do not get any.-jshpe ! of 'the gate receipts after all" expenses are paid. It was felt that by making available a portion of the gate takings, unions would be encouraged to push a game for a large gate.
“It is a very sound suggestion,” said Mr H. H. Craig. The incentive would be there for sub-unions to make a success of a game and also to encourage larger gates. There was much to commend it, declared the chairman, Mr S. McLeod. He thought it was a bit hard at the present time for a sub-union to go to all the trouble of arranging a Bay of Plenty fixture and yet get nothing for it.
“I think there will be bigger gates if sub-unions know they are going to benefit,” said Mr B. Norman.
