A season of both financial and social success is reviewed by the president of the Whakatane Rowing Club, Mr H. G. Cutler, in his report to be presented at the annual meeting on September 20. The report reads: —

The past season has been a great success both socially and financially. Included in above placings are four Auckland Provincial Championships being the following:— Junior Fours: G. Moore, E. Hunt, L. Stewart, G. Dines, P. Lynds (cox).

Bowering. Social Side: The annual picnic was held as usual at Lake Rotoma and the entertainment and various games were enjoyed by both rowers and their friends. We paid our usual visit to Tauranga on their opening day and they were through to ours.

Various dances were held throughout the season and all helped to swell the club funds. Also successful were the closing day sandhill picnic and the windup social and night held in the King Street Hall. Finance: The treasurer’s report following will show our finances to be in a healthy state and thanks must go to your very active committee and the sound efforts of the efficient social committee for the various successful bottle drives and functions organised' for the financial benefit of the club. Plant: We were very disappointed in the non-arrival of the two new boats from Australia last season but still confidently hope to have them here before or during this coming season. We have purchased four sets of oars and are now in a very good position for the coming season. During the winter the boats have been stripped and should be in a good state of repair for when the season opens.

Meetings: The executive met on 17 occasions and the following are the attendances: Norman 17, Moore 17, W. Stuart 17, Bowering 17/ Atkinson 17, Armstrong 16, Whittaker 16, L. Stewart 15, G. Henry 15. R. King and G. Dines both left early in the season, their places being taken by W. Sandham and G. Koea.

It is with deep regret that we annouce the passing of Mr J. Pyne a foundation and life member of this club.

In conclusion I wish to congratulate the club on the splendid performance it put up this past season and am confident that the coming one will be equally as good if not better.
