Large Octopus Is Landed
An octopus measuring 7ft 6ins to Bft across was taken from the harbour at Salisbury wharf, Mount Maunganui last week by Mr W. Merrick, of Mount Maunganui. Mr Merrick’s attention was drawn to the octopus by another person on the wharf and he was able to secure it by means of a line bnd jag. A bystander on the wharf described the octopus as the biggest he had viewed, adding that he had seen several hundred. As he had difficulty in freeing his boot after placing it near one of the tentacles, the onlooker considered that the octopus could have inflicted severe injuries on a human unfortunate enough to have got within its grasp.
