AWAKERI JUNIOR RED CROSS RAISES £ls FOR APPEAL
On Tuesday afternoon a concert given by pupils of the Awakeri , School under the organisation of the local Junior Red Cross Circle was successful in raising £ls for the «United Nations Appeal for the world’s suffering children. This amount, together with donations to the fund, will be handed to the committee in charge at Whakatane The concert was a fine effort and the first, it is believed, yet organised in the district for the appeal. The organisation was headed by the headmaster, Mr E. C. Anderson.
Before announcing the first item Lesley Goodwin, Junior Red Cross president, welcomed visitors to the concert and thanked them for their support. The concert was an outstanding success and a credit to both organisers and performers. At the conclusion the Circle Secretary, Beth Ewen, was able to announce to the well filled hall the total sum raised. The programme:— Primers: Rhythmic recitation “Rainbow Fairies” and “Ten Little

Stds 3 and 4: “Our Gold in the Rain” Maureen Alley, Ngaire West, David Carter, Robert Allan, Ross Lasenby. School Choir: Hunting Song by Weber. Irish Jig: Gail Lasenby and Maureen Alley. Senior Play: The Mad Tea Party, Robert Moore, Brian Bell, Jonathan
White, Fred Kalman. Stds 1 and 2: Musical Novelty, “The Owl and the Pussycat.”.
