REPRESENTATIVE SPORTS FIXTURES FOR TOMORROW
The main Rugby fixture for the Bay unions tomorrow will be the representative fixture between the Bay of Plenty and Thames Valley to be played at Waihi. At Whakatane the final of the third grade and senior competitions will be completed while Whakatane juniors are to challenge Opotiki for the Shalfoon Shield on the latter’s home ground. In the Rangitaiki Union new senior and junior competitions will be started.
The Whakatane basketball competitions will be brought to a close tomorrow when all teams will play during the afternoon. Hockey enthusiasts will have a busy weekend. Tomorrow at Edgecumbe there is the annual St John benefit day. This is one of the main events of the year and always produces some good games. An 11-a-side tournament is to be played at Edgecumbe on Sunday. Probably the main game of the year will be played by the Bay of Plenty Rugby league team at Ruatoki tomorrow. Th team will defend the Waitangi Shield from Auckland Maori. This should be a hard game as both teams have been training steadily over the past few |i,veeks. The Bay have so far defended the shield twice successfully this year. Tomorrow play will commence for the President’s and Captain’s trophies at the Whakatane Golf Club while at Te Teko an open day is to be held on Sunday. Women’sgames will be played tomorrow.
